19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The athlete, a former world number one, has had a challenging season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.
Now training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first trophy after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since March of that year.
Victory also signifies he has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one various competitions.
"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a title is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in that event earlier this year.
The player's retrieving approach and regular emotional displays on court had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.
However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play positively, reinforced by an better service.
The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the final five games to go ahead.
The pair traded break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional victory, gained dominance to force a third set.
He defended 4 early break points in a close deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev earned the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
