2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer notified employees about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a more defined game identity.

The president stated that the developers is now overhauling the project with a revised focus, aiming to address player expectations.

The news follows a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s the game demo was informative. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It uncovered the requirement for a sharper identity.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the criticism to mind and revamped the title with a renewed direction - one that’s positioned to fulfill its potential to our players.

Our confidence in this project increases every day. To advance the outstanding development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Director of the team. After some time of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on next week.

The appointee currently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously was employed at Treyarch and Activision in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.

The upcoming game was announced in October 2024 in conjunction with a early access event. Initially, the developers presented the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an innovative advancement on the category."
